Little Britches Old West - Chris, Buck
"Buck Wilmington!" Chris Larabee bellowed, striding across the street to his friend’s side. Seeing his friend jump slightly at the sound of his name being called, Chris made sure to stop within Buck’s personal space. "I can’t believe you did that!"
Buck nodded distractedly at the lady and then turned confused, worried eyes on his friend. "What, Chris? What did I do?" he asked, honestly not knowing.
Chris ground his teeth. "You just gave Vin and JD a quarter and told them to go to the store to get some candy."
Buck checked the change in his pocket and groaned. "I thought it was a penny..."
Runaways - Buck, Chris
"I can’t believe you did that!" four-year-old Buck Wilmington exclaimed, staring at his friend with wide blue eyes filled with shock and a hint of fear.
Chris glared at the younger boy. "I didn’t mean it!" he said, his momentary anger covering his desire to burst into tears.
"Mr. Vin’s been working on that awful hard. It was supposed to be a surprise for your birthday," the younger boy said, his voice hushed.
Chris sniffed and swiped his eyes as he picked up the two pieces of the horse Vin had been carving for him. "I didn’t mean it," he whispered. "I just wanted to look."
ATF - JD, Ezra
JD sat in the passenger seat of Ezra’s Jaguar, his eyes wide and clearly showing his shock. His mouth opened and closed several times before he managed to squeak out "I can’t believe you did that!"
"Yes. Well. It seemed the appropriate course of action given the circumstances." Glancing sideways at his friend’s still-amazed eyes, he shifted uncomfortably once more. "Well. What else was I supposed to do?" he demanded, wishing JD would look anywhere else but at him.
"But... but..." JD sputtered. "But you just delivered a baby and walked away!"
Ezra huffed out a breath. "Yes. Well. Mr. Larabee is expecting us," he defended.
Old West - Ezra, Nathan
"I can’t believe you just did that!" Ezra exclaimed, indignant. "Again!"
Nathan looked over the Gambler with dancing eyes. "Ain’t my fault you can’t ask for a little help," he admonished. "Figured you’d o’ realized after last time I wouldn’t let you wander around with a dislocated shoulder."
Ezra huffed in indignation. The truth was, after the despicable way he had been forced to treat Nathan during this assignment, he hadn’t wanted to ask.
Seeing the struggle in his friend’s eyes, Nathan explained, "You did what you had to do in order to bring them down. I did what I had to do to heal you."
Little Britches Star Trek - Nathan, Vin
Nathan let out a breath of relief as his small patient began to show signs of waking. As the blue eyes blinked away unconsciousness, he sighed in relief. "I can’t believe you did that!" Nathan said, his worry evident in his voice.
Vin lowered his eyes, knowing he was in trouble. He had accidentally insulted one of the Jaasc and Nathan had tried to take his punishment. Vin had stepped in to take his own punishment instead. "I’m sorry," he apologized softly.
Lifting the boy into a tight embrace, Nathan hugged him and advised, "Next time, let me take the punishment. That’s what Uncles do."
Lost Lambs - Josiah, JD
"I can’t believe you did that!" Father Josiah said, sinking onto a log, his eyes wide with disbelief. Blinking several times he turned his head to face the beaming boy. As his shock left, a smile began to form on his face in response to JD’s wide grin.
"Do you want me to do it again?" JD asked excitedly. It wasn’t very often he got an adult’s attention all to himself.
Josiah just shook his head in amazement. "No," he denied, shaking his head. "I think seeing you somersaulting off of a branch onto the ground once is more than enough."
"‘K!" JD agreed happily.
Little Britches Vengeance - Vin, Josiah
Vin’s eyes widened in amazement as he watched Josiah dust off his clothing and turn to rub his horse’s nose. The young boy’s eyes danced. "I can’t believe you did that!" Vin said in an awed whisper. "That was amazing."
Josiah turned and smiled, pleased that he could still do some tricks. With a deep chuckle, he admitted, "When I was a boy, I had a horse who was, perfect for trick riding."
Looking from Josiah to his horse, Vin asked, "Would you teach me how to mount and dismount and do those tricks?"
"We’ll see," Josiah offered, wondering if Larabee would hang him for offering.
